Decisions Relating to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, March 2016.

Decisions Relating to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a recently revised document to provide information, support and guidance when considering CPR decisions.

The document has been developed by the BMA and RCN for healthcare professionals, providing a clear decision-making framework to assist the often complex discussions surrounding the decision-making process.

The document briefly reflects upon the history of CPR in the clinical context and how this has been shaped over the years by medical advances and policies and procedures.

The main points are initially bulleted to provide a quick aide-memoire and are then explained in detail within the main document. This is further supported by a clear decision- making flow diagram.

The document addresses issues such as Advance Care Planning, mental capacity and best interest decision-making and the essential communication process that is necessary with all involved in the discussions.
